Joliese / Idol Tan – Best fake tan review

The best fake tan has been found!

Well as you probably all know I’m slightly addicted to fake tan, I never really get the chance to get much real sun so fake tanning has become a bit of a hobby of mine, ha! Being such an addict of self tanning you get to try lots and lots of different products and my latest one is the idol tan sunless tanning range. My tactic with fake tan products is to get free trials of them, that way if there no good I’ve not lost out! My quest (as lame as it sounds!) is to find the best fake tan product out there.

So, just over a week ago I got the free trial of Idol tan and gave it a go. I had read about it in a few magazines and there was an article about it on one of the celebrity websites I’m addicted to! It had some really good reviews and since I’m trying to find the best fake tan out there I thought I would give it a try.

Well where to start? It ticks all of the boxes for a great self tanner which are:

Gives you a great natural tan color and not a nasty looking orange!

Applies evenly on your body without leaving white patches!

Dries quickly and doesn’t leave a mess on your clothes etc.

Smells nice and is good for my skin

It passed all of the above with flying colors! Not only that but it’s been 7 days since I applied it and I’ve still got a nice looking natural tan. It’s not usual for me to big something up this much but this stuff is great and probably one of the best fake tan’s I’ve used. I took some before and after pictures:

The results speak for themselves really! As I said before this has probably been the longest lasting self tan I’ve used, it’s got a really nice feel to it as well and is very easy to apply and spread over your body evenly. Its left my skin feeling nicely mousturised which is a bonus so it feels like I can keep using this stuff and it will be good for my skin!

So maybe my quest for the best fake tan is over? I’m going to keep using this a few more times and see how things go but so far so good! You can get a 2 month supply for around $10 at the moment, but it’s a special offer so I would get it while you can! Click here or the image below to go their site and check out their offers! Feel free to email me and let me know what you think of it, thanks so far for the feedback!

Click here to go to the Idol Tan site and check out their offers including the free trial!

**PLEASE NOTE** – Joliese have rebranded their product as Idol Tan! Don’t worry though, when you go to order, it is the same product that gives the same great tan, just with a different name!

Having used a lot self tan products, I now and then come across something that stands out from the crowd. Most of the self tanners that I come across are rather average and fall short my high expectations (I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to tanning!). Idol tan was one that I originally read about in a magazine and did a little bit of digging online afterwards to see what it was all about.

I had seen a few reviews on it and they were quite positive but with self tanners you really have to try them out to see what there all about. I’m naturally very pale so a fake tan can easily look very bad on me if the product isn’t high quality!

To start with, it’s worth mentioning that idol tan comes as a gel which is kind of a bit weird if you ask me! I have used so many self tanners before but they were all either lotions, sprays or mousses. First time for everything though! When I began applying it I was pleasantly surprised to see there was no horrible smell, I’ve used a lot in the past that have smelled awful and made me cringe when applying them! The gel itself has a very good consistency that makes it easy to rub in thoroughly and smoothly, you don’t end up with clumps or any mess and it just rubs onto your body with ease.

The tan itself is a very natural colour and is one of the only few self tanners that looks genuine, as if you might have actually been lying in the sun for a couple weeks. Maybe it’s just because im an expert (self-proclaimed!) but I ended up with a really smooth finish with not a single patch or blotch anywhere. I was rather chuffed with the results to say the least. It will be best for me to show you the before and after pictures, then you can see for yourself:

As you can see, a dramatic improvement over my very pale natural look. One last thing to mention is that the tan lasted around eight days before it started to fade, this a lot longer than most other self tanners that I’ve used before. Also the fading was quite gradual and even, in other words I didn’t start getting white patches, my skin just slowly returned back to its normal white self (how depressing lol).

Preparation is key – Whilst Idol tan is probably the best self tanner I’ve used, I have to admit that preparation is very important if you want to get the best out of it. The most crucial part of this is exfoliating. When you exfoliate, you are removing the dead skin cells that reside on the outer layer of the epidermis, these last around 10 days on the skin. If you don’t exfoliate then you will start to shed these dead skin cells within a couple of days. This will mean two things: the first is, your self tan won’t last as long, the second is that you might start getting white patches as different parts of your dead skin shed before others. I recommend going for an oil-free scrub and to do it right before you apply the self tanner.

Some people also recommend you moisturize afterwards but I disagree and have noticed that sometimes this can affect your fake tan. Idol tan has some natural moisturising agents in it and so gives you a self tan as well as looking after your skin at the same time.

One of the reasons that I (and probably a lot of people!) use fake tan products is to try and save our skin from the dangers of the sun. Now I am in no way a killjoy and I love getting out in the sun when the weathers good, but I also understand that many risks come with it. As with anything that carries risk, you should do it in moderation; this certainly applies for spending time in the sun.

Generally, skin cancer is caused by long term exposure to the sun and can take years to fully develop. Sunlight contains three different types of ultraviolet rays; UVA, UVB and UVC. UVB is actually what causes us to get sun burnt and long term exposure can lead to skin cancer.

It’s important to understand that there are many factors that have an impact on your risk of getting skin cancer. These include your age, your skin type and whether skin cancer runs in your family or not. Check this page here for a detailed look at who is most at risk from skin cancer.

Getting a few days of sun a year is generally not going to increase your risk of getting sun cancer. It is when you regularly spend time in the sun that the damage is done. Obviously there are several things you can do to combat these risks:

1. Use a very high factor sun tan lotion. A recent study showed that factor 15 is not strong enough to mitigate the risks that come with sun exposure. Try to use a factor 50 when possible.

2. Limit your time in the sun. This is an obvious one, but you can also try to avoid the sun when it is at its strongest; i.e. between 12 and 3pm.

3. Wear protect clothing. You can still enjoy the sun without having to be near naked! Covering up will greatly lower your risk of getting sun burnt and damaging your skin

You’re probably beginning to see the reason why I love to use fake tanners. Because I’m naturally very pale, I like to have a nice glow to my skin. To get this I have two options; the first is to spend lots of time in the sun and put my skin at risk. The second is to use a good fake tan product like idol tan and get a great looking tan the safer way!

Don’t get me wrong, I still get out in the sun whenever possible, but I make sure I cover up and I limit myself to just short periods!

Getting a fake tan is easy, you get your fake tan product and apply, right? Well, kind of yeah! But if you rush into it, it can easily end up a mess, and nothing looks worse than a badly applied fake tan!

So, here are my top tips to getting a perfect fake tan

1 – Pick a good product! - You could take all the time in the world to put your fake tan on, but without a good product it’s never going to look good! Personally I’m really liking Idol Tan right now and I’ve been using it for a while, it’s got a lovely natural tan color and doesn’t streak! Check out my full idol tan review for more details! Avoid using overly cheap products, there cheap for a reason!

2 – Prepare your skin properly! – Good preparation makes such a big difference in your fake tan, so make sure you take your time to do this step! First, have a shower and make sure your skin is nice and clean. Then follow that up by exfoliating properly. Once you’ve done this your skin is ready to absorb your fake tan properly.

3 – Take your time! - The key to getting a smooth and even finish is to take your time when applying your fake tan! You need to make sure you apply it slowly and evenly, so massage it into your skin in circles applying a good bit of pressure, this will make sure your skin fully absorbs the fake tan properly.

4 – Let it dry! – Once you’ve properly applied the fake tan it’s time to let it dry, this is the boring part! So stick the T.V on and stay stood up to ensure you don’t smear the fake tan which is what commonly leaves to blotchy patches or an inconsistent finish! Depending on the product it should only take around ten minutes or so to fully dry. Follow this up with a quick shower!

So there you have my top four tips for the perfect fake tan. It can take a few goes to perfect fake tanning but once you do you’ll make sure you get a lovely fake tan every time, remember, the aim here is to make the fake tan look as real as possible

Happy tanning!

What fake tan does Cheryl Cole use?

Well this is a question that I see get’s asked a lot! I have got to admit that Cheryl does have a nice natural looking tan as she is demonstrating for us in this photo below:

Well it’s obvious that Cheryl probably spends quite a lot of time in the sun but I know for a fact that she uses fake tan as well!

Anyway I decided to do a bit of digging to try and find out which one she uses. Apparently she did a magazine interview a few months ago and she talked about her beauty treatments and the kind of make up she uses. One of the questions was about fake tan and she claimed she used a product called Idol tan if she needed to get a fake tan the same day. She also claimed that she used to use tanning beds but doesn’t anymore because of the health risks.

So there you have it, Idol tan is the product Cheryl claims to use! It’s not one I had heard of before until I read about it in the interview though, but I’ve actually done a review of idol tan and given it a try so check it out (it’s got my before and after pictures there as well!)

Happy tanning!
